Doyang River: Map, Dam and Tributaries
Doyang River is an important tributary of the Dhansiri River, flowing through Nagaland and Assam with a length of 167km. It is the biggest and longest river in Nagaland, originating from the Angami area, where it is locally known as Dzu or Dzulu.
From its source, the river flows through Wokha and Zunheboto districts before entering Assam, where it merges with the Dhansiri River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River. Moreover, the Doyang Hydroelectric Power Project in Wokha district is a significant infrastructure development along its course.

Origin and Course of Doyang River
oyang River originates in the Kohima district, Nagaland, and follows a winding path before joining the Dhansiri River in Assam. Initially, it flows eastward and meets the Saju River, after which it turns westward and enters Zunheboto district. As it continues its journey, the river forms a natural boundary between the Sema (Sumi) and Lotha tribal areas.
Upon reaching Wokha district, the Doyang River makes a westward bend near Litami and merges with the western Lotha area. It then flows towards the southern border of the district, where it suddenly turns westward, leaving the hilly terrain and entering the plains near Koro village.
Eventually, the river crosses into Sibsagar district of Assam, where it merges with the Dhansiri River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River.
