Wainganga River originates from the Satpura Range in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh. Initially, the river flows northward, but its direction changes when it meets a part of the Satpura mountain range. From this point, the river flows southward through the following regions:

• Bhandara district (Maharashtra)
• Gondia district (Maharashtra)
• Nagpur district (Maharashtra)
• Chandrapur district (Maharashtra)
• Gadchiroli district (Maharashtra)

The river forms a unique, curved path between Gadchiroli and Markanda. A few kilometers downstream from Markanda, the Wainganga meets the Wardha River at the Wardha-Wainganga confluence. From here, it takes the name Pranhita and continues its course until it joins the Godavari River at Kaleshwaram, Telangana.
