The Simsang River is also known as the Someshwari River in Bangladesh. It flows through the Garo Hills in Meghalaya, India, and the Netrakona district in Bangladesh. The river is important for the people living in these areas as it provides water, beauty, and cultural significance.

Origin and Course of Simsang River

The Simsang River originates in the Nokrek Mountains in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya, India. From there, the river travels eastward passing through various parts of the Garo Hills. It flows through key towns in Meghalaya before crossing into Bangladesh.

In India, the river passes through the following towns:

• Williamnagar, the headquarters of East Garo Hills district
• Nongalbibra
• Siju
• Rewak
• Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills district

After entering Bangladesh, the Simsang River becomes the Someshwari River. It flows through the Netrakona district passing through areas such as Susang Durgapur. Eventually, the river meets the Kangsha River. A branch of the river flows toward the haor areas in Sunamganj District and joins the Surma River.
